In a massive coup for the Gold Coast, the biggest annual event in Queensland will be entirely re-branded and transformed into a massive ‘SuperCarnivale Gold Coast’ weekend.

The Queensland Government and V8 Supercars Australia jointly announced that the Gold Coast fixture will be wholly re-birthed in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the event this October.

V8 Supercar drivers Jamie Whincup, Will Davison, Mark Winterbottom and Paul Dumbrell to a man have been ‘blown away’ during a lightning tour of Abu Dhabi and the Yas Marina Circuit where the Championship opens the 2010 season next month.

The four split their pre-season preparation to make the trip on Etihad Airways for the promotional component prior to the event with four days of water sports, track days, cultural visits, mixing it with Australian delegates and expatriates – topped off by a ride in a Minardi Formula One two-seater.

The 2009 V8 supercars season has been a year of highs and low, an emotional rollercoaster, shattering to some but rewarding to others. It was this season that led to the crowning of Jamie Whincup who secured back-to-back V8 Supercar titles.

The Clipsal 500 was launched in high fashion, and expectations were high of the newly crowned champion Jamie Whincup. However he did not disappoint. The streets of Adelaide promised to provide carnage with young gun Caruso crashing out at high speed and begging marshals to put the fire out on his car. Young Perkins also provided some entertainment slapping into the wall side on at high speed, however Whincup stayed clean of all this to grab both race wins, clean sweeping the round and stating his championship intentions.
