Formula One world championship contender Mark Webber and his Red Bull Renault will complete laps at Barbagallo Raceway as part of the inaugural ‘Perth Festival of Speed’ on November 28.

Webber is expected to do three timed runs in his Red Bull racer on Barbagallo’s short circuit – likely to be the show car that the Red Bull team use in a number of publicity opportunities throughout the year.

It will be the first time that a modern Formula One car has ever been driven at Barbagallo Raceway.

At the launch of the event today, Webber said that anyone who hasn’t seen an F1 car needs to find a way to Barbagallo Raceway.

“I am coming to Perth. Come along and see me drive a Formula One car, and much much more, at the ACC Australian Festival of Speed,” he said on via video at the launch.

“There is nothing quite like the sound of a Formula One car. Come and see it up close.”

The event is a one-day-only celebration of motor sport. Along with the F1 cars will be Dean Fiore’s V8 Supercar, plus other V8 drivers, as well as rally cars, sport sedans, formula cars, bikes, street cars, and historic vehicles.

Australian international star Daniel Ricciardo will also be at the event.

V8 driver Fiore says that he is stoked to be included in such a huge event for his state.

“I am stoked to be part of such a huge event – especially if Mark is crowned world champion, it will make a huge event,” he said.

“I am really excited and looking forward to playing my part in the Festival of Speed.

In 2011, the festival is intended to be moved to a temporary street track in the heart of the Perth CBD, comprising Riverside Drive, Terrace Road and Victoria Avenue.

it would be pretty hard to keep the f1 car out of the sand traps because of the turns and crest etc.

should be a good show and turn out:)

Apparently tickets go on sale today. Shows how fantasticly it's been promoted, literally haven't seen anything anywhere!

Good luck getting tickets! Honestly...Think I'll give it a miss for this year. Will look into attending next year on the CBD circuit.

Ricciardo upset about RBR’s short track run

Australian Formula One hopeful Daniel Ricciardo is upset that the Red Bull Racing car that will complete laps at Barbagallo Raceway will only be run on the short circuit.

As part of the inaugural Perth Festival of Speed on November 28, Australian F1 star Mark Webber will complete three timed runs in his Red Bull racer on Barbagallo’s 1.76km short circuit. Due to insurance issues, the F1 car will not be able to use the full 2.42km track layout.

West Australian Ricciardo, currently second in the Formula Renault 3.5 class and official Red Bull Racing reserve driver, has driven the ‘Show Run’ vehicle that Webber will use at Barbagallo Raceway. He told Speedcafe.com.au that is a shame that the Perth public won’t be able to see the car at its maximum potential.

“It’s a disappointing that it is on the short circuit. The F1 car will barely get out of fourth gear,” he said.

“Actually, it will probably get fifth gear, but I don’t know about sixth and seventh gear! It sucks a bit that they can’t use the full track for it. Coming down the hill there would have been pretty special.”

Ricciardo is hoping to get back to Perth for the Festival of Speed event which is a one-day celebration of motor sport, including V8 Supercars, rally cars, sport sedans, formula cars, bikes, street cars, and historic vehicles.

“I haven’t really heard much about it. I’d love to be there, of course, but it will be up to my other commitments with Red Bull,” Ricciardo said.

“If all of my European stuff is finished, I’ll come home, even if I’m not driving the F1 car.”

would be good to get the f1 car down a airport strip where it would get out of 5th gear and go beyond that. saftey would be a bit of problem but WA would be happy
