Taz Douglas has declared himself fit and ready to make his return to V8 Supercars racing after a successful test at Winton Motor Raceway yesterday.

In January this year, the 25-year-old was diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma, a type of cancer of the lymphatic system.

With his enduring course of chemotherapy complete, the laid back Victorian got his first laps in a V8 yesterday since the final round of last year’s Fujitsu V8 Series at the Sydney Telstra 500.

Douglas told Speedcafe.com.au that he is feeling as healthy as he could be and can’t wait to get back to racing in three weeks at Townsville.

“The test went alright, we just went round and round,” he said.



“I did an alright time, but it was more about trying to get back in touch. I’ve been out of it for a while so I took it easy to start.

“I did a couple of race runs. It was no stress. I was a bit sore in the arms, but no different to how I was before after a test day.”

Douglas is confident his body is ready for the demands that driving a V8 Supercar will place on his body.

“I think I’ll be fine. I’m 100 percent now,” he said.

“I’m not sick or tired. I’m feeling 100 percent. There’s no stress. I just need to grow my hair back and I’m right!”

For Townsville, Douglas will drive his car with the sequential gear shift – the first time his self-prepared car has ben equipped with the technology. Kelly Racing has also completed an engine rebuild on his motor.

His Fastaz Motorsport Commodore VZ will carry support from Astral Pool, manufacture of pool and spa equipment for the Townsville street race (July 9-11).

This is really great news to hear about Taz, As he has come back from a very serious health issue and has shown that he is still keen to do something that he is passionate about and that is to race a V8 again.
