David Reynolds is poised to make a return to the Fujitsu V8 Supercars Series in the next round at Townsville with Walkinshaw Racing next month.

The 24-year-old is pencilled in to drive Fabian Coulthard’s ex-Bundaberg Red Racing Commodore VE on the Townsville street track, as Coulthard has assumed the reins of Garth Tander’s Toll HRT Commodore. Tander will debut a brand-new car at Darwin’s Hidden Valley circuit this weekend.

Walkinshaw Racing team member Rob Crawford nor Reynolds would comment about the entry when contacted by Speedcafe.com.au.

It is set to be a return to the Fujitsu Series for Reynolds, who competed in the class in 2008, finishing fourth with Tony D’Alberto Racing. He was promoted to the Championship Series with Bundaberg Red Racing last year, going within a few laps of a podium result at Barbagallo Raceway before a mechanical failure robbed him of a result. He finished 22nd in the title.

This year, Reynolds has remained on the sidelines, but was retained by Walkinshaw Racing as an endurance driver.

A total of 26 cars have entered their intentions to race at Hidden Valley – the most number of entries in the series since the final round of the 2008 title at Oran Park.

Reynolds won the 2004 Australian Formula Ford Championship as well as the 2007 Australian Carrera Cup Championship.

This is great news!! . Reynolds was one of the best new guys last year I think, he was quite strong by the end of the year. It's a shame he isn't with Bundy full-time this year. I hope he gets a main game drive for next year, he has potential.

i think that it was a silly move for walkinshaw racing to replace reynolds with thompson. hopefully reynolds can prove his worth again in the fujitsu v8s and get back in a seat in 2011

I agree, Reynolds was just getting to grips with the car and category setup before he got dumped. No disrespect to Thompson but Reynolds deserved another year with the Bundy team.

Absolutely, the Walkinshaw boys definately made a mistake. David deserves a full-time drive. Hopefully he can have some good endurance results.
R.I.P. Jason Richards, you will never be forgotten.

David Reynolds will race a Bundaberg Red Racing Commodore VE in the Fujitsu V8 Supercars Series at Townsville next weekend.

The 24-year-old will drive Fabian Coulthard’s ex WR009 chassis, complete with backing from Bundaberg Red.

The Melbourne-based driver is no stranger to the Bundaberg Rum brand having raced full time with Walkinshaw Racing in a Bundy Red Racing Commodore in 2009.

Reynolds said he is thrilled to be back in a V8 Supercar after the Walkinshaw Racing team confirmed today that he would take part in a one-off round of the Fujitsu Series before suiting up in one of the four WR Commodores for Phillip Island, Bathurst and possibly the Gold Coast street race.

“I am really thrilled to have the opportunity to get back into a Walkinshaw Racing Commodore,” Reynolds said.

“To line up as an endurance driver in one of these cars you really need to be on top of your game and nothing compares to actual racing miles in the car.

“I am also really honoured to have the support of Bundaberg Red. We had a fantastic association last year and it is a brand that evokes huge passion amongst the fans so it is great to be driving for them again.”

Matt Bruhn, Bundaberg Rum Marketing Manager, welcomed Reynolds back into the family.

“David Reynolds was a great ambassador for us last year, and we are thrilled to have him back in the Bundy Red colours in Townsville”

Competing under the Ben Eggleston Motorsport banner alongside fellow Walkinshaw Racing driver Cameron McConville, Reynolds will also have support from the Walkinshaw Racing engineering group.

“I know the guys at Walkinshaw Racing really well so it should be like stepping back into familiar territory,” Reynolds said.

“I really enjoyed the Townsville event last year and the circuit was outstanding so now I just can’t wait to get back there,” he said.

The Sucrogen Townsville 400 kicks off on Friday, July 9.

Great to see him back, I still think he was treated unfairly last year being dropped.

Absolutely agree Justin. I still wonder why they dropped him for Andrew Thompson. I reckon David would be doing so much better than both Fabian and Andrew.
