Cameron McConville is set to enter the next two rounds of the Fujitsu V8 Supercars Series at Winton and Townsville in an ex-Walkinshaw Racing Commodore.
The recently retired V8 Supercars driver has pieced together a deal with car owner Ben Egglestone, car preparer Walkinshaw Racing and sponsor Jax Quickfit Tyres to get some extra race miles before suiting up with Garth Tander in the #2 Toll Holden Racing Team entry in the three V8 Supercars endurance races (Phillip Island, Bathurst and the Gold Coast). McConville, who owns a Jax Quickfit Tyres franchise at Moorabbin, Victoria, will confirm his two-race deal tomorrow. The Egglestone Commodore will be prepared by WR and campaigned in a striking yellow and black livery. It will be McConville’s debut in the Development Series. The Commodore that he’ll race is currently at WR’s Clayton workshop being race-prepared for the Winton round. He told Speedcafe.com.au today that the deal came about after he floated the idea of getting more miles. “It all came about before Willowbank. I did a seat fitting in the regular HRT car at the race shop, and I was saying that I was looking forward to getting back in because there isn’t a lot of miles available before the main races,” he said. “I said to them that I wouldn’t mind do the odd race here or there, and they said if they could get a car, they’d put me in. “I suppose it was my concept, if you like, but I had to find a little bit of money to do it, and being a tyre store owner, it was a good way to get Jax Quickfit brand out there, and they’ve come on board. “I’m looking forward to getting a bit of awareness for the Jax’s brand, as well as blowing off the cobwebs.” Stay tuned to Speedcafe.com.au tomorrow for the first look at the V8 Supercar that McConville will campaign at Winton Motor Raceway (May 14-16). Steve Owen currently leads the Fujitsu V8 Series from Tim Blanchard, Ant Pedersen, Nick Percat and James Moffat. www.speedcafe.com.au/2010/05/06/mcconvil...-v8-start-at-winton/ |

In my opinion these retired drivers should not be allowed to compete in a series they are
only useing as practice for the main game endurance races. take away from the drivers and teams fighting for the Fujitsu championship by other drivers using it as "testing time". results of the Fujitsu championship which would be a shame. If you want to be in the Fujitsu championship be in it from the start of the year until the end of the year, do not use it as a testing ground. |
