i though that one source had all of these pairings. this is just about more frantic witht he driver pairing that bathurst. is there anyone else from DTM except from harald fretzen (i know it's misspelled) that is invited or racing in v8? i would like to compare a DTM to a v8 and have a mix up with the cars.

The only one there who has/does race DTM besides HHF is Tom Kristensen. However, he has only been rumored (Kristensen) by BJR. He is very unlikely to come though.

AA states FPR have snapped up Jacques Villeneuve.

V8s get dose of world's best drivers
Luke Turgeon | April 22nd, 2010

THE open-wheelers are nowhere in sight but this year's Gold Coast motorsport carnival will still have an international flavour, with 18 drivers from 13 countries locked in to co-pilot the V8 Supercars.

Ex-Formula One world champion Jacques Villeneuve and IndyCar stars Will Power, Ryan Briscoe and Scott Dixon are understood to be among those to be announced at tonight's launch for new-look festival, which hits the streets of Surfers Paradise from October 22-24.

Already the Gold Coast SuperCarnivale is being billed as the greatest gathering of racing car drivers seen anywhere in the world.

The rejuvenated plan will see each V8 Supercar team link with an international driver for the two scheduled 300km championship races.
Under the revised format, the Gold Coast weekend will become the second longest V8 Supercar endurance event behind Bathurst.

Queenslander Power is a certain starter, believed to be locked in with Ford Performance Racing.

Villeneuve, who has also raced IndyCars and NASCAR, previously raced on the Gold Coast during his time with the Indy CART series.

Under the new format, the international driver must complete at least 30 per cent of each race and the results will count towards the V8 Supercar championship.

Teams with more than one car must recruit a second local driver.

So far, only three international drivers have been confirmed -- former IndyCar drivers Scott Pruett and Alex Tagliani and 2009 Le Mans winner David Brabham.

The 2009 SuperGP debacle forced organisers into the biggest shake-up in the event's 20-year history.

As part of the extreme makeover, the event drops from four days to three and ticket prices have been slashed by 20 per cent.

The Bulletin can also reveal there will be a major push to attract families to the event, which has become renowned in recent years as a haven for drunken and lewd behaviour.

More resources will be put into making the festival a spectacle away from the track, with a massive music and entertainment program planned for the Broadwater precinct.

The event's new naming rights sponsor will also be revealed tonight at the exclusive launch party at the Broadwater Parklands.

International stars rev up for Coast
| April 21st, 2010

SEVERAL high-profile international drivers, including ex-Formula One world champion Jacques Villeneuve, are expected to appear as guest drivers in this year's Gold Coast V8 Supercars event.

Villeneuve, the 1997 world champion, and Australasian IndyCar stars Will Power, Ryan Briscoe and Scott Dixon are understood to be among those to be announced at Thursday's launch for the October 22-24 event.

Villeneuve, who has also raced IndyCars and in the American NASCAR series during his career, previously raced on the Gold Coast during his time with the Indy CART series.

The 39-year-old Canadian, who hasn't had a full-time drive since leaving NASCAR last year, is expected to be one of 18-drivers to share a drive with regular V8 Supercar pilots at the SuperCarnivale event.

Brett Murray, a member of the event's management committee, refused to confirm any of the drivers yet to be formally announced for the weekend, saying only a world-class field had been assembled.

"We're extremely excited at the calibre of the field we've managed to sign for this new-look event," Murray told AAP.

"The interest within the driving ranks internationally has exceeded our expectations.

"We have a mixture of former Formula One drivers, Indy 500 champions, IndyCar and Champ car champions, world touring car and British touring car champions.

"There's no doubt that it'll be one of the greatest gatherings of driving talent ever seen in Australia."

The weekend meeting, which replaces last year's controversial SuperGP event, will be classified as the V8 Supercars' third endurance race of the season after the Phillip Island 500 and Bathurst 1000.

So far, only three international drivers have been confirmed for the race - former IndyCar drivers Scott Pruett and Alex Tagliani and 2009 Le Mans 24-hour winner David Brabham.

Organisers have stipulated the international drivers must feature in both 300km races on the Surfers Paradise street-circuit, while in keeping with new endurance race rules for 2010, primary V8 Supercar drivers must stay with their own vehicles for the event.

This race weekend is starting to get my attention. Since the race is getting actual good drivers. I just wonder what the pairings will be depending on the championship situation. As I don't see HRT or 888 risking having Garth or Jaime with the international driver as they could cost them points.

Bold bid to save Gold Coast V8 race
Tanya Westthorp | April 23rd, 2010

V8 Supercar drivers will spend the season jostling for points only to leave the fate of their championship dreams to the mercy of international drivers in the new-look Gold Coast 600.

Eighteen world-class international drivers from all walks of motorsport -- but with limited V8 Supercar experience -- will team with V8 drivers in October's Armor All Gold Coast 600 in a risky, but spectacular concept designed to save the flagging race.

While the likes of Formula One champion Jacques Villeneuve and Heinz-Harald Frentzen and IndyCar drivers Will Power, Scott Pruett and Dario Franchitti are all exceptional in their own series, they will have just one day to get a feel for the much-different touring cars before they hit the Gold Coast streets.

V8 Supercar drivers are under no illusions that it could make or break their championship dreams.

"We have potentially the best drivers in the world ... but a few might struggle a bit with a V8 Supercar," said Jack Daniels Racing's Todd Kelly, who will team with IndyCar driver Scott Dixon.

The 18 international drivers were revealed as the V8 Supercars last night unveiled the Rock and Race Gold Coast 600 which will feature three huge nights of after-race concerts in the Broadwater Parklands.

International acts will be confirmed in coming weeks but Empire of the Sun, Ian Carey of Ministry of Sound fame, The Potbelleez, Noiseworks, Richard Clapton, The Angels, Kid Kenobe and MC Shureshock have been confirmed.

Ticket prices to the three-day carnival will be reduced by 20 per cent and the Main Beach-centric circuit reconfigured to cut out Surfers Paradise, as V8 Supercars tries to lure back families after last year's A1GP debacle.

The Legends initiative, which was so successful last year, will again be a part of this year's event.

International race car drivers will team up with V8 team drivers and compete in at least 30 per cent of the two 300km endurance races.

Bottle-O Racing's Paul Dumbrell said he would rest easy handing over the reins to Villeneuve.

"A guy of his calibre, after half a day of testing, he'll be right up to speed," he said.

Jim Beam Racing's James Courtney will be reunited with good mate and IndyCar driver Dario Franchitti and said the racing would be made even more exciting with the added element of international drivers, pit stops, driver changes and more strategy and overtaking.

Franchitti, who has already tasted success here with the open-wheelers, said he had been bugging friends for a drive at Bathurst for years.

"To be back in Surfers Paradise in a V8 Supercar is going to be cool and there is not one international driver in the field who is not serious about winning the event," he said from the US.

I don't know if these International guys will be at the same speed as Whincup after half a days of testing even though they are the best in the world - driving a V8 Supercar is an unique experience!

I'm really excited to see Ryan Brisco back at HRT, he was great back in 2006 with no luck - the team didnt have luck.
