888rocks created a new topic Skaifey's Bathurst Predictions in the forums.
V8 LEGEND Mark Skaife has compared Mark Winterbottom and the Ford Performance Racing team to NRL side St George Illawarra - claiming they will choke when this year's big races roar to life.
The sport's most successful driver predicts Holden will win the championship and this year's Bathurst 1000, leaving Ford to pick up the scraps.

Skaife says Whincup will take the checkered flag at Mt Panorama, while Winterbottom and FPR will struggle to make it into the top five.

Jamie Whincup

Championship position: 2nd

Bathurst prediction: 1st

Skaife claims Whincup's two Bathurst wins make him the driver to beat in Australia's famous race.

Whincup will be without his partner in crime Craig Lowndes because they have been split up under a new rule change, but Skaife says that won't matter.

"His speed all year makes him the man to beat," Skaife says.

"His co-driver Steve Owen knows what to do and I'm sure he'll do the job. He just has to bring the car back for Jamie without a problem. If he does that, and gives it back to Jamie with an hour to go, Whincup will be very hard to beat.

"He knows what to expect and has to go in as favourite."

Garth Tander

Championship position: 6th

Bathurst prediction: 2nd

He has struggled to come to terms with his HRT Commodore this year but Skaife says the reigning Bathurst champion will again fire at the Mountain.

All but out of the championship race, Tander and his team will be going all out for Bathurst glory, says the team's former owner.

"I think Garth is next," Skaife said. "He is very good at Bathurst and the HRT cars are tuned for that track. They have always been good there and I don't think that will change. Tander also has former full-time driver Cameron McConnville in his car."

James Courtney

Championship position: 1st

Bathurst prediction: 3rd

He has been the man of the series but Skaife doesn't think Courtney and his Jim Beam Racing team have the firepower to match it with the big guns when it counts.

Skaife is predicting Courtney will be fast, but not fast enough to beat Whincup and Tander in the year's biggest race.

"Courtney hasn't shown his full potential at Bathurst," Skaife said.

"I think he will this year. It is time for him to complete the whole day. He will be strong and the team needs to run a low-risk strategy to keep him up there."

Lee Holdsworth

Championship position: 7th

Bathurst prediction: 4th

Skaife predicts Garry Rogers driver Lee Holdsworth will upstage some of his bigger-name rivals and go close to a podium place. Holdsworth has had a mixed year but Skaife, who is Holdsworth's mentor, says he will be at his best for the big one.

"I think Lee will be able to run at the front," Skaife said.

"He has always done a good job up there. Lee is one of those guys who has shown really good speed this year and also what a talent he is by driving back to come third last year. He will have a heap of confidence and a new car. They punch above their weight."

Mark Winterbottom

Championship position: 3rd

Bathurst prediction: 5th

They are the No. 1 Ford team in most people's eyes but Skaife says FPR and Winterbottom are in for another rough ride at the Mountain. Last year a loose battery ended his race, and Skaife wonders what it will be this year.

"I put them in fifth, very nervously," he said.

"I am yet to be convinced by FPR. They are consistent but have never impressed me in the big races. They are like a team which can't win the big games, like a St George Illawarra or a Hawthorn.

"On speed he can win but not on the team's overall performance."

Mark Skaife has omitted himself and co-driver Craig Lowndes from his Bathurst predictions.
